This has almost nothing to do with the car itself, just my mindset. It starts thusly:
Wow, an all wheel drive station wagon that (will ALLEGEDLY eventually be equipped with)‘s 3-pedaled. This is everything I could want perhaps.
But wait, I don’t really need all wheel drive at all. I could save $5,000 and get a base Golf wagon with a stick. Perfect car for me.
Hang on, a new iM costs just as much that, and I like that a lot, too. Yeah it’s a hatchback and not full wagon but the seats fold down like any other car, and even with the seats up the space is good enough.
Although, why would I buy one new? I found some used iMs that are under $14,000 with well under 50k miles. That would be the smart decision.
But man, at this price range, I could something way more interesting. Multiple vehicles, even! A Land Cruiser, maybe. Or perhaps a manual Allroad AND a loaded T100. Or a 318ti, SC400, and a Prizm GSI!
Ah, fuck it. Tercel wagon and savings account it is.

I believe you can get the Alltrack’s AWD in the regular GSW without paying the premium for the lift and plastic cladding.

I need to go and and chat with VW now that these are showing up. I like the idea of AWD, but the truth is that the regular golf wagon has been just fine for me, and with snow tires its perfectly serviceable year round. Its not like my wife needs her car to be able to tackle trails or anything either.

Plus the Golf wagon is available with AWD, so is a lift really necessary?

is it? inderdasting. I was REALLY hoping to get away from the Germans this time around but there are NO competitors in that space.

Well Tercel wagons are still pricey and still sell for $2000 to $4000 sometimes.
Why spend all that money when you can get a Ford Focus Wagon for $1195!!!

But then why spend all that money when you can get a NEW bicycle for half of that??

Yeah, I wasn’t sure if the manual was available yet. And the only reason why I know about the 4motion Sportwagen is because the Golf Alltrack is roughly $35k CAD and that’s ridiculous in my mind.

I found myself drooling over a really clean Escort wagon this morning, while we’re at it. I mean, SO MANY OPTIONS.

The new Honda Civic hatch, although the looks are awkward at certain angles, has about 122 cubic feet of interior space and 25-26cuft behind the seats.(Golf sportwagen has 125 cubic feet of total interior space and 30 behind the seats).
Plus, manual, Honda reliability, etc. You just have to live with those weird front and rear trapezoidal cutout things, and the slight underbite.

Seriously. The current frontrunner alternative to the sportwagen is an XC/V70

Incidentally, that dealer I linked to also has an Escort Wagon for about $1100.
But the real challenge is finding a manual Ford Focus/Escort wagon... like the Focus Wagon I currently own!
:-D

Technically maybe. Saab made all of 166 manual AWD sportcombis.

Well, now. Not the kind of bike I want to ride. My new mountain bike was a relatively low-end model, although full suspension, and I bought it from a local shop at the end of the season, got it close to shop cost, and it was $1,500.

I mean, if you wanted one, you could get it. They technically did offer it here which can’t be said for just about anything else.
